The Vine reviews ‘Set Me Free’ for Israel

Song 18. Eden Alene- Set Me Free

This is an infectiously catchy, current pop song, full of hope and optimism for the future. The strings are beautiful in this all throughout, from those percussive plucks to the sensual chorus notes, and they fuse perfectly with the other instruments and Eden’s voice. Her voice! It’s so pretty- so smooth and powerful. I’m absolutely in love with it, and I’ll even forgive the whistle notes. Just a personal turn off, but if she can pull them off live, I will be impressed. I think my favourite part of the song is the pre-chorus. It’s so dreamy and light, leading us perfectly into the energetic main chorus, and that drop is heavenly. The chorus is extremely catchy, and the instrumental is divine- both rich and layered, and also fun and upbeat. It’s a perfect blend of the traditional with the contemporary, and it works an absolute treat. The final chorus is a little bit repetitive and shouty, but the build up to all of this is perfect, with seamless transitions throughout. The result is a fantastic contemporary pop song with lovely traditional touches- it’s catchy, upbeat, unique and jam-packed with content. This is full of fun, but it is also top quality. I love it.

Prediction: I really really really want this to qualify, but there is just so much competition in the first semi final with the other female pop singers. It’s playful, catchy nature will hopefully appeal to televoters, with juries rewarding the song’s originality. We know Eden can sing and dance, so the staging should be fabulous. If this goes through, I’d place it 10-15.
