Song 16. Iceland- 10 Years
Daði Freyr is back, bringing an adorably wholesome little song with him. I love all of this- the orchestral introduction before dropping into the funk that Daði does so well. The bass is divine in this from start to finish, and the instrumental is perfect- letting the lyrics take centre stage. And how cute are the lyrics in this song? It’s truly beautiful how much love comes through this song- they’re so touching because they’re so real. There’s no huge flowery metaphor or declarations of endless love- it’s just pure love. Genuine, day-to-day love. The chorus is wonderfully catchy, if not the most memorable, and the dance break is so fun and cheeky! Then there’s the lovely harmonies in this, between the on-stage vocalists and then in the heavenly choir. Daði has put an ethereal choir into a funk song and made it work- that’s impressive. I love Daði’s voice in this, too. Those deep notes send shivers right through my soul. I just love how authentic this song is to Daði, and how wonderfully unique the song is- it’s catchy, adorable, wacky, and just really fun, whilst also being genuinely heartfelt and adoring. This is amazing, and I love it.
Prediction: Daði has a lot to live up to with this entry, after his massive global success last year. He’s picked up thousands of fans, though, and I think they will come through to vote for him. Personally I’ve bought festival tickets strictly on the basis that Daði will be there- he’s amazing and incredibly charismatic. He’s gonna work that camera, for sure. Juries could go either way on this- it’s original, fresh and well put together, but maybe just a little bit too different for them? I can’t see it failing to qualify, and would put this in the top 10 overall, definitely with the televote. I’d say 5-10 overall.
