The Vine reviews ‘Tick-Tock’ for Croatia

This is a strong dance number, contemporary, sexy, and catchy. I love the instrumental in this song- it’s extremely strong. The cute bells at the start of the song are a gentle introduction, with the instrumental knowing when to take centre stage and when to let Albina shine. In my opinion, the drop into the chorus is the strongest moment of the song- that bass is perfection. The build up into the chorus is also effective, creating tension and making us all the more eager to reach that sexy drop. The brass in the chorus is powerful and sassy, cheekily underpinning the catchy vocal line. I love the synth that crops up in the later choruses as well- bringing in something new whilst preserving the overall mood of the song perfectly. This would easily climb the charts and fill a club floor, and just brings fun to the contest. It’s infectiously catchy, contemporary and original, and the overall package is extremely well put together. The transitions are seamless, Albina’s vocals are lush, there’s plenty of new ideas introduced to keep us interested, and not really much I can criticise. Maybe it could be a little bigger at the end, really going all out in that final chorus, but I am being picky here. This is a brilliant pop song, and I can only applaud it.

Prediction: This has to qualify. Surely, this has to. I know there are eight similar songs in the semi, though, so it could struggle, but Albina so deserves to go to the final. I’d be absolutely gutted if this stayed in the semis, especially if the staging is strong. It’s current, catchy, and should have strong jury and televote appeal. Albina’s vocals were on point in Dora, so unless something goes catastrophically wrong on stage, this should be in with a fighting chance. I wouldn’t rule out top 10 in the final, but more realistically I’d predict 10-15.
