The Vine reviews ‘Loco Loco’ for Serbia

Loco Loco is a club hit that would get everyone on a dance floor instantly. It’s fast, jam-packed and infectiously catchy. Without a doubt, if this were released into the charts by a famous girl band in the US, it would top the charts and be on everyone’s summer playlist for sure! It’s very big and very brash, and it radiates sexiness and sass throughout. I adore the bass in this, and the instrumental is very well produced and put together, keeping the energy high throughout. The harmonies are strong, but I struggle to hear them against all the instrumental and effects, and the song is very very fast. This works in one way as it fits the club floor filler vibe, but it also makes the song sound a little hectic and rushed. There is a lot of repetition in the lyrics, which does give us points to lock onto in a very fast, lyric-heavy song with little space to breathe, but I worry there is just a little too much going on. It does feel a little overwhelming. On some specific moments: I’m not a fan of the shouted pre-chorus, it annoys me for some reason I just can’t put my finger on, and I really don’t like the silence and ‘One, two, girls, come on’ in the bridge. It’s jarring and breaks the flow from crazy to empty. The dance break, however, is strong. Still, as much as I love the song’s instrumental and bass and harmonies, there is too much going on too fast for me- it’s all very well produced and catchy, but I just find it a little bit overwhelming.

Prediction: I think this is in with a very strong chance of qualifying- it’s current, catchy and sexy, not to mention it has a prime spot in the running order of the easier semi (for pop songs as there’s less of them to compete with), coming after Iceland’s love song and before a string of slower ballads. It will stand out, and unless they massively underperform, Hurricane will attract lots of votes from both juries and televoters. If it qualifies, it may struggle with the other pop songs in the final to break out, but they’re the only girl band this year, which may give them a boost. I’d say 13-16 in the final.
